Giving Back and Paying Forward

Each year, Koffel + Jump is pleased to share a significant amount of its profits with the local charities and special event fundraisers. We have an affinity to children's causes and the war against cancer. Cancer strikes nearly every American family and the Koffel + Jump family is no exception.

Our charitable giving in the past has included the following outstanding organizations, causes, and foundations. We highly recommend that you learn more about each of these and the folks they are helping.

If you have any questions about this list and/or you would like your organization to be considered for giving, please e-mail Brad Koffel at brad.koffel@kjlaws.com

Upper Arlington Special Olympics -- Everyone who knows us understands how much we love kids. Helping youngsters is one of the most important tasks any adult can do. We proudly support Nicole and the Upper Arlington Special Olympics.  For More Information, visit Upper Arlington Special Olympics at www.ua-so.org

The Childhood League -- Annual "Merry Go Round" Fundraiser -- Michelle and Brad Koffel are active volunteers in this annual fundraiser for The Childhood League.   "Merry Go Round" is the major fund-raiser for The Childhood League Center since 1949.  The Center provides a comprehensive educational and therapeutic program for children with special needs from birth to 6 years old.  The Center is supported by a volunteer organization of approximately 100 women in Central Ohio who raise operating funds, guide the mission of the Center, and volunteer in its classrooms.  www.childhoodleague.org

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital -- we believe that any organization that supports children is worthy of our support.  However, we believe St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital is at the forefront of pediatric cancer and catastrophic childhood diseases.  Founded by the late entertainer, Danny Thomas, children from all 50 states and 70 countries have been treated by St. Jude.  Also, research is shared freely and immediately with the global medical community.  The doctors and scientists at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital have pioneered treatments that have helped push the overall survival rates for childhood cancers from less than 20% in 1962 to more than 70% today.  The survival rate for the most common form of childhood cancer, acute lymphoblastic leukemia, has risen from just 4% in 1962 to 94% today! www.stjude.org

Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation / American Diabetes Association -- both of these organizations are very important to us.  Diabetes is present in many of the families and friends of Koffel & Jump.  Children, teens, and adults with diabetes must manage this disease every day. It interrupts every part of their life from diet, exercise, sleep, and travel.  The long term complications from diabetes ranges from inconveniences to life threatening conditions.  We are proud supporters of the Central Ohio area volunteers who give much of their time and money to find a cure for diabetes.

Marburn Academy www.marburnacademy.org was founded in 1981 by a group of visionary parents, educators, and civic leaders who saw our community's need for a school that would provide effective instruction for bright children whose learning differences prevented them from succeeding in traditional school programs. Marburn Academy serves students with average to superior intelligence who have been unable to learn in their previous schools due to difficulties often diagnosed as learning disabilities.

David K. Dunlap Golf Classic David Dunlap Foundation is in honor of David Dunlap, a fraternity brother and good friend of Brad Koffel and Mark Jump. David left behind a wonderful wife and 3 beautiful daughters. This annual event keeps David’s memory alive for the rest of us.

Unverferth House www.unverferthhouse.org The Unverferth House serves as a residence for The Ohio State University Medical Center patients and families who live outside Franklin County. The House provides a safe and comfortable environment to families and offers them a chance to share thoughts and emotions with others who may be experiencing a similar situation. The House also serves as convenient housing for patients just after discharge, when frequent visits back to University Medical Center are required.

The James Cancer Hospital, The Ohio State University Medical Center www.jamesline.com Opening our doors in 1990 as the adult patient-care component of The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center, The James is one of 16 charter members of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network. We are one of just a few freestanding cancer research and treatment hospitals in the United States, and the only one in Ohio. This year The James was again rated as one of “America’s Best Hospitals” by U.S. News & World Report.

Children’s Hospital Columbus www.childrenscolumbus.org Founded by a determined group of women in 1892, Children's Hospital began as a local charity to serve a dozen very ill children. Throughout the following century, this tiny community-funded mission matured into a health care system that today spans the Midwest as one of its preferred providers of pediatric health care. Columbus Children's today is ranked as one of the nation’s ten largest children’s hospitals and pediatric research centers.

Muscular Dystrophy Association www.mdausa.org The Muscular Dystrophy Association is a voluntary health agency — a dedicated partnership between scientists and concerned citizens aimed at conquering neuromuscular diseases that affect more than a million Americans. MDA combats neuromuscular diseases through programs of worldwide research, comprehensive medical and community services, and far-reaching professional and public health education.

The Jeff Allen Memorial Association Each year, Jeff, a former associate of Koffel + Jump, is remembered by a dedicated group of friends and his family at his annual golf outing. Jeff will always be remembered by his friends at Koffel + Jump as a walking, talking sports trivia book. Jeff loved the Steelers and is certainly smiling with their 2006 Super Bowl Championship. We miss you Jeffy!
